Performing Identity
This
seminar develops and strengthens voice through creation of new performance
work. We will investigate contemporary theories of identity through practice
- transforming original, autobiographically based performance/text to communicate
individual perspective. Participants will experiment with form, devising
solo and ensemble pieces that expand writing and performance skills. Multimedia
and interdisciplinary work strongly encouraged. Meetings consist of presentation
and collaborative development of works-in-progress, discussion of readings,
and consideration of the creative process. Course work includes daily writing
assignments and readings in 20th/21st Century American solo performance,
sociology, anthropology, architecture, semiotics and theories of identity.
Students from all disciplines welcome.
